The distance to your plug socket
The length of the festoon cable, for example 5 metres, refers to the distance between the plug and the end piece. With a 5-metre festoon cable, there is 50 cm between the plug and the first bulb socket; with 10 metres, this is 1 metre, and with 15 to 100 metres, it is 1.5 metres. If you find the distance to the first bulb socket too short, you can order an extension lead.
Why use an extension cable?
If your plug socket is five metres from your patio, you don't need a festoon cable with bulbs hanging along those five metres. An extension lead bridges the distance, so you can start your festoon cable where you actually want the lighting. That way, you only pay for the bulb sockets that hang above your patio.
Which length do you choose?
Measure the distance generously and keep the route the cable takes in mind: along a wall, around a corner or past a planter can quickly add more length than a straight-line measurement suggests. It is better to choose slightly too long than too short. Looking for a connection point outdoors? Then take a look at the connection accessories.
Pay attention to the load
When choosing and extending festoon cables, make sure you do not exceed the maximum permitted load: the bulb sockets take a maximum of 15W each, while the festoon cables take a maximum total wattage of 2300W. Always unroll an extension cable fully when in use, and position it so no one can trip over it.
