Functional and stylish

Desk lamps are primarily practical, but they can also complement your interior. A good desk lamp provides direct, focused light, giving you enough brightness while working, reading or studying. This can help reduce eye strain and make working more comfortable. As a table lamp sits on your desk and is always in view, it also makes sense to choose one that looks good.

Adjustable light

The most important thing about a desk lamp is being able to direct the light where you need it. Choose a model with a tiltable arm, rotatable head or adjustable shade, so you can direct the light onto your book, paperwork or keyboard without it shining into your eyes. Ideally, place the lamp on the side opposite your writing hand to avoid casting a shadow over your work.

Materials and styles

Desk lamps are available in a wide range of metal finishes, including gold, bronze, silver and copper. Choose a desk lamp with wood details for a rural interior, or go for an industrial look with a combination of black and gold. Models with rattan shades or adjustable sand-beige shades are also available, as are two-light versions for extra brightness. If you’re looking for something more rugged, take a look at the industrial table lamps. For a neutral option, explore the black table lamps.

Which bulb do you need?

Most desk lamps are fitted with an E27 or E14 bulb fitting. For a workspace, cooler white light can make it easier to see details and stay focused, while warm white creates a softer atmosphere. If you also use your desk in the evening, a 3-step dimmable bulb lets you switch between brighter light during the day and softer light in the evening. The bulb fitting and size you need are listed in the specifications for each lamp.
