Why choose a wall light with glass?
Glass is one of the most popular materials for wall lights, and it has a big influence on how the light looks and feels. Because a wall light is positioned at eye level, the type of glass makes a noticeable difference. Opal white glass diffuses the light softly and helps prevent glare, while clear or lightly tinted glass gives the lamp a more open, decorative look. The glass you choose therefore affects both the atmosphere and the way the light is distributed.
Types of glass
Opal white glass, also known as opal glass, is a popular choice for its soft, even light. It works particularly well beside the bed or in a hallway. Amber glass gives the light a warm, golden tone and creates a cosy atmosphere, especially when combined with a filament bulb. Smoked glass has a smoky grey tint and gives the lamp a sleek, contemporary look. You’ll also find ombre glass with a gradual colour transition, for example from clear to brown. Glass is often combined with frames in black, gold, wood or travertine.
Globes, shades or spotlights
A glass globe on a wall plate is a timeless choice and provides soft, diffused light. It works well in the bedroom, hallway or living room. Models with two or three globes cover more of the wall and create a more prominent look. There are also glass wall spotlights, many of which can be rotated so you can direct the light towards a painting, reading area or other specific spot.
Which bulb do you need?
Glass wall lights are commonly fitted with G9 or E27 bulb fittings. Smaller models may use an E14 fitting, while wall spotlights often use GU10 bulbs. With transparent or tinted glass, a filament bulb can add an attractive decorative touch. With opal white glass, the bulb is hidden behind the shade, so you can simply choose a bulb with the brightness and colour temperature you prefer.
