What is track lighting?
Track lighting is not only used in commercial spaces, but increasingly in homes too. With its contemporary look, our modern range fits seamlessly into today’s interiors and makes a stylish addition to your home. You can use it to highlight a piece of art on the wall or a worktop in the kitchen. In offices and other commercial spaces, a track system is a stylish way to provide central lighting. The beauty of track lighting is its modular design: you can click the spotlights onto the track wherever you need them and angle them exactly as you like.
What does a track system consist of?
A track system is made up of separate parts that you can combine in different ways. Track lighting sets are complete sets with a track and spotlight fittings, allowing you to choose the number of spotlights yourself. Starter sets are ready-made bases with a track and mounting materials, without spotlights. Track spotlights are the spotlight fittings themselves, without bulbs, available in various colours and designs. Lighting tracks are separate tracks for extending your system. Accessories include connectors, connection blocks, end caps and cover plates.
1-phase or 3-phase?
With a 1-phase track system, all spotlights operate on a single circuit, making the track more streamlined and suitable for residential use. A 3-phase track system is more commonly used in shops and other commercial spaces. The track is bulkier, and the spotlights can be switched on and off separately across three circuits. If you want to switch individual lights on and off at home, this is also possible with a 1-phase track by using smart GU10 bulbs.
Putting together your own track system
You can choose between a 1.5-metre or 3-metre system. The sets are supplied with accessories such as the connection block, connectors, screws and matching end caps. To create a U-shape, order at least one extra track and two 90-degree connectors. For a T-shape, you need one extra track and one T-connector. If the power connection is in the middle, order the two-sided connection block separately.
Please note that the track is 3.4 cm wide. If the junction box in the ceiling is wider than the track, choose a square cover plate for a neat finish. Need help connecting it? View the track lighting manual.
Which light bulb do you choose?
Our track spotlights are fitted with a GU10 lamp holder. The bulb is not included, so you can choose the look and brightness to suit your needs. We have a wide range of GU10 bulbs, giving you plenty of options. If you want to highlight a specific point, such as a painting, choose a bulb with a narrow beam angle; for general lighting of a room, a wide beam angle works better. Choose warm white light for a cosy atmosphere, or cool white for functional lighting in the kitchen or workspace.
